Means more than just identifying rust spots
Corrosion on paper machine components can have a negative influence on runnability and on the mechanical functioning of the individual machine components, which in turn impairs the occupational safety of the machine personnel.
Corrosion can appear at the most varied places on the machine and in various ways. Components that fail due to corrosion lead to unplanned downtimes, endanger the machine personnel and adjacent components.
For assessments, the Voith experts subject the machine to a visual inspection, if necessary with the aid of endoscopy. The remaining wall thickness of the machine frame and endangered components are measured using ultrasound; furthermore, Vibration condition analyses are carried out if necessary.
Subsequently, the machine frame and / or components are calculated with a Finite element analysis in which the measurement results are integrated into the modeling and are subjected to a stress test.
An extensive report with recommendations for how to proceed further, e.g., repair or replacement of affected components, tops off the investigation.
If replacement is necessary, advanced suggestions for retrofitting can be worked out through the design.
Optionally, Voith offers support in identifying the cause of the corrosion on the basis of laboratory analyses relating to chemistry / metallurgy, material design and process.
