Frequently, a considerable amount of unscheduled machine downtime is caused by malfunctions in the hydraulic and pneumatic systems of paper machine, calender or winder and packing & transport facilities. These interruptions are just tolerated, although there is often a relatively inexpensive solution available. The installations are often no longer state-of-the-art, regular preventive maintenance is frequently neglected due to the high cost of downtime; spare parts are often only available with long delivery times and at high cost. The consumption of operating materials and auxiliaries (compressed air, hydraulic fluid, filters, electrical power, cooling water) is high.

To prepare the audit Voith assesses all available documents and determines the scope of the audit and necessary measuring points on the basis of the respective objectives and current plans. The process also includes obtaining information about weak points and bottlenecks from those responsible for operation and maintenance. In further investigations Voith employs modern computer-assisted measuring techniques and where appropriate makes use of the equipment, personnel and know-how of other specialist areas (technology, mechanical/vibration analysis, drive technology, automation/control and instrumentation, heat balance/thermography and safety engineering).
