The CarboRun CS rolls inside a wire loop for guiding the wire have a major influence on paper quality. Different wire wrap angles and the resulting wire roll deflections cause relative motions between top and bottom wires, negatively influencing drainage and fiber formation. An optimized wire run and uniform fiber orientation are the basis for excellent paper qualities.

Depending on the final product, center supported wire rolls (CarboRun CS rolls) are used in addition to conventional wire rolls. CarboRun CS rolls differ from conventional rolls in their design, achieving an inverse deflection behavior. The CarboRun CS roll developed by Voith consists of two concentric roll tubes connected at the center of the roll. The resulting additional degree of freedom at the roll edges is responsible for the characteristic deflection behavior of the CarboRun CS rolls. Defined lowering of the CarboRun CS roll edges positively influences the wire running properties in machine direction, as well as wire spreading.
